Malmos limestone quarry – urban research
Malmo, the third largest city in Sweden, demonstrates a somewhat, odd phenomenon of a "black hole" in the very heart of a city.
A" post industrial dinosaur" in the shape of a 12sqkm limestone and chalk quarry
Still in use today (500.000 ton limestone quarried per year).
The project focuses on a morphological and structural elements inspired by both industrial excavation machines and geological layers of earth.
This chimera of steel construction and stone mass produces an index of 12 sections that together compose a multipurpose mega structure.
The suggested layout positions the scheme along the main ramp of the quarry and uses the structure as a stitch sawing the city back to the terrain.
